November 02, (THEWILL) – Serie A winning manager Antonio Conte is set to meet with Tottenham Hotspur players today after finalising a contract to become the club’s new manager, based on reports monitored from North London.

Further manager Nuno Espirito Santo was fired by Tottenham on Monday morning after only four months in charge. As THEWILL reported, chairman Daniel Levy and managing director of football Fabio Paratici met on Sunday to discuss Nuno’s departure.

Nuno was informed of the decision the next morning at Tottenham’s training field.

Conte was quickly tipped as the top choice to succeed him. The Italian coach, who previously led Chelsea to the Premier League title, was a candidate to succeed Jose Mourinho in north London earlier this year and was recently discussed in connection with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s job at Manchester United.

The 51-year-old was said to have gone into fine details about his goals and intentions, as well as how he would get his players in better shape, while meeting with club President Daniel Levy and Director of Football Fabio Paratici, and the rest of the management of the Premier League side.

Conte initially had second thoughts about succeeding Mourinho, and talks had broken down by early June. Even if he appears set to takeover now, it is still unknown why he backed out at the first instance.

Following Nuno’s dismissal, the two parties resumed discussions, with Conte now expected to return to English football. Chelsea won the Premier League title in 2016-17 and the FA Cup the following season during Conte’s two years in charge.

As THEWILL reported, the Italian manager left Inter Milan in the summer after leading them to the Serie A title in 2020/2021 by denying Italian giants Juve another successive title.

The final confirmation will come from Tottenham.
