September 14, (THEWILL) – Alfa Romeo has announced they will retain an unchanged driver line-up for the 2023 Formula One season.

Valtteri Bottas and Guanyu Zhou will continue as teammates next year, the Swiss-based team confirmed on Thursday. Zhou, China’s first F1 driver, made his debut alongside Finnish veteran Bottas this season. The 24-year-old will now have the opportunity to compete in front of his home fans when the Chinese Grand Prix returns to the calendar in Shanghai on 21 April. The race has been absent for five years due to COVID-19 restrictions.

“Signing again with the team is always a great feeling, especially when we know how things are shaping up,” said Zhou. He added that he has a good relationship with Bottas and they are working closely together to push the team forward.

Bottas, a previous race winner with Mercedes, already had a contract extension for 2024 as part of a multi-year deal. “There is a good atmosphere within our squad, I get along with Zhou and we both push each other hard to improve,” the experienced Finn said.

Alfa Romeo will become the Audi factory team from 2026. Frenchman Theo Pourchaire will continue as the team’s reserve driver next season.
