October 19, (THEWILL) – Arsenal drew 2-2 with Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium on Monday night in the English Premier League, thanks to French forward Alexandre Lacazette’s injury-time goal.
Nicolas Pepe’s beautiful curling effort, which was expertly saved by Vicente Guaita, landed right at the feet of a grateful Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for a smart finish to put the hosts ahead after just eight minutes.
Arsenal’s adrenaline-fueled start soon faded as Palace, who were missing Wilfried Zaha due to illness, slowly came into the game. Conor Gallagher’s excellent volley on the stroke of half-time nearly tied the game, but Aaron Ramsdale matched the effort with a diving save.
After Jordan Ayew harried Thomas Partey into giving up the ball, Christian Benteke thundered home an unstoppable equaliser for Palace just a few minutes after the break.
After 70 minutes, the visitors deservedly took the lead when Odsonne Edouard finished off a counter-attack with a powerful effort that flew past Ramsdale and in off the bar.
It appeared that Palace would win this game, only for Lacazette to pounce on some confusion in the box and fire home an equaliser with the final kick of the match.
With the draw, Arsenal extended their unbeaten streak to five games, but their second consecutive draw left them in 12th place on the table. Palace, on the other hand, has gone four games without a win. They have drawn their last three games, keeping them in 14th place.
Arsenal will host Aston Villa in their next match, where they will contend against their former goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, while Palace will host Newcastle United at Selhurst Park.
