November 02, (THEWILL) – Wolverhampton Wanderers’ great run of form continued with a 2-1 win over Everton at Molineux on Monday, thanks to goals from Max Kilman and Raul Jimenez.

Bruno Lage’s Wolves showed flashes of brilliance at times and had chances to score more on a hopeful night for home supporters, who have now watched their team pick up 16 points from their past seven Premier League games to move into seventh place.

Only Chelsea has matched Wolves’ five league victories since the beginning of September, and it was a well-deserved victory over an Everton side that was fortunate not to be blown away in a one-sided first half.

After 16 minutes of play, the free-flowing hosts thought they had taken the lead when Hwang Hee-Chan converted a superb run by Jimenez, only for VAR to rule the goal out for offside.

On 28 minutes, though, the home side took the lead they deserved when centre-back Kilman headed home his first Wolves goal from a corner in a fairy-tale moment for the former Maidenhead United man.

Jimenez read a poor back-pass by Godfrey like a book and dinked a gem of a finish over Jordan Pickford, and Wolves were two up in no time.

Six minutes after the hour mark, Super Eagles’ Alex Iwobi reacted fastest to a loose ball inside the Wolves box and tucked home to half the deficit for Rafa Benitez’s side.

Everton came close to stealing a point late on as Richarlison’s flicked header was excellently saved. But that was the end of the story for the Toffees, who notch their third straight defeat and provide fresh headaches for Benitez.

The quality of Wolves’ football was excellent at times during this game, and Lage’s tactical blueprint is shining through the team’s display especially with the pressure from the front three, the overlapping wing-backs, and the quality of the central midfield, all of which have made Molineux a fantastic atmosphere of recent.

Everton have now lost three games in a row, and they are now in 10th place on the table. Wolves, meanwhile, have climbed to seventh position, just three points behind West Ham for the final Champions League spot.

Everton will face Tottenham Hotspur in their next match, while Wolves will visit Crystal Palace.
