Alcaraz Strides To Third Round With Straight Sets Victory Over Griekspoor

June 30, (THEWILL) – For the first time ever, the sensational Carlos Alcaraz qualified for the third round of Wimbledon after defeating Tallon Griekspoor in straight sets, 6-4 7-6(0) 6-3.

Alcaraz’s victory over Jan-Lennard Struff, his first match on grass this season after suffering an elbow injury, came after he had been tested to the limit.

However, the number seven player in the world was more at ease right away while facing Griekspoor and was able to demonstrate his talent from all over the court.

With only one break in the first two sets and strong serving from both players, Alcaraz easily won the second set tie-break without dropping a point. There was some pushback as Griekspoor made a few break-backs in the third set that suggested he was not quite finished and suggested a comeback would be possible, but Alcaraz allayed those fears with another break of his own before serving out the victory.

The youngster only made one service error and had a winning percentage of 39 to 20. Alcaraz was able to prevent Griekspoor from trying to retaliate and showed more of the spine that saw him beat Novak Djokovic and Rafa Nadal ahead of Wimbledon. It allowed him to quickly catch up to regain the upper hand and win in a little under two hours.

In the third round, the Spaniard will play the powerful German Oscar Otte, which will present a tough challenge for the Spaniard.
