Akwa Ibom Police Commissioner Reads Riot Act On Killing Of 7 Cops And Abduction Of Others

BEVERLY HILLS, March 31, (THEWILL) – The Commissioner of Police for Akwa Ibom State, Amiengheme Andrew, has said his command would stop at nothing to bring those behind the killing and abduction of some seven security operatives in Essien Udim to book.

Speaking through the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Odiko MacDon, the Commissioner said in recent times in Essien Udim Local Government Area, security and police personnel had come under unprovoked attacks, leading to deaths and destruction of property.

According to him, although the remote and immediate causes of these unprovoked attacks remained unknown, investigations were on to unravel them and provide a lasting solution.

MacDon said: “The command is deeply saddened by the unprovoked attack on security personnel who were out maintaining the peace yesterday, 30th March, 2021 which led to the demise of CSP Ben Ajide who was the Commander of the Command’s Quick Intervention Unit and two others, while four others are missing.

“We hereby deeply condole with the deceased families and wish to assure them and members of the public that the Command under his watch will not be deterred in carrying out its assigned constitutional mandate and will do all within its powers to bring perpetrators to book.”

He called on the public to volunteer useful information relating to the incident, and promised to treat such facts with utmost confidentiality.
