Akwa Ibom Gov Laments Killing Of Policemen

BEVERLY HILLS, April 09, (THEWILL) – The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, has commiserated with the Nigeria Police Force over the loss of cops in the wake of the insecurity witnessed in different parts of the country recently.

He specifically mourned the death of officers and men of the Force who lost their lives during the security breach in Essien Udim.

In his words: “The gallantry and patriotism of those men who died in combat are deeply appreciated by the government and good people of Akwa Ibom State.

“Accepting to pay the supreme sacrifice to restore law and order is the greatest act of loyalty to the country and the Force.

“To the glory of God, the criminal elements have been neutralised, their unwholesome activities thwarted and absolute tranquillity has returned to the troubled area.

“The conquest of evil and return of normalcy, to my mind, is the most befitting condolence message to the Force and families of the fallen officers, because it adds a note of positivity to their already very painful death.”

The Governor’s thoughts were expressed in a letter addressed to the Inspector General of Police, through the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State, CP Amiengheme Andrew.

He however promised that the state would take steps to cushion the effect of the demise of the officers on their families.

He further commended the gallantry and efforts of the security and intelligence community in the state for leaving nothing to chance in the eradication of the criminal irritants and restoring peace to Essien Udim.

The Governor promised to continually support the police and other security agencies in the discharge of their duties.

Also speaking on the security situation in Essien Udim L.G.A., the Commissioner of Police, Amiengheme Andrew, said successes have been recorded even as a mop up operation was still ongoing in the affected area.

Speaking through the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Odiko MacDon, he advised residents of the affected areas and environs to remain calm and be security conscious as security agencies would continue to do their best to restore lasting peace, law and order in the council area.
