Akwa Ibom First Lady Gives N500,000 Lifeline To Indigent Family

August 14, (THEWILL) – The wife of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Patience Umo Eno, has made available an initial personal donation of Five Hundred Thousand naira (N500,000), in support of plans to provide immediate accommodation, food supplies and other basic necessities for an Indigent family of five in Eket.

The donation, according to a release by the Media Unit of the first lady, came on the heels of a trending story on the Instagram handle of one QueenPraise John Uzoma (popularly known as NriNdioma), about a 22-year-old girl, Grace Udeme Esenowo, from Ikot Abia, Okon Eket, who works on her father, Venerable John Uzoma’s farm in Eket Local Government Area and feeds her four children with chicken and fish feeds.

Our Correspondent reports that QueenPraise had used her Instagram handle to draw attention to the worrisome situation of Grace Udeme and her children, even as she had raised over a million naira overnight from empathetic and generous Individuals, Organisations and others, to assist the family.

The report has it that the young woman, a single mother of four, was discovered on a farm in Eket, where she works, lives there with her children, as well as feeds the children with the same substance she feels birds and fish with.

According to the release endorsed by the Press Secretary to the Governor’s Wife, Comrade Uduak Ekong, the first lady, While thanking QueenPraise for drawing attention to the worrisome situation, has directed her NGO, the Golden Initiative For All, (GIFA) and her Aides to work with the Ministry of Women Affairs and Female Stakeholders in Eket, to fashion out a holistic support for Grace and her children.

“While thanking QueenPraise for drawing attention to this worrisome situation and raising over a million naira overnight from empathetic and generous Individuals, Organisations and others, the First Lady has directed her NGO, the Golden Initiative For All, GIFA and her Aides to work with the Ministry of Women Affairs and Female Stakeholders in Eket, to fashion out holistic support for the young mother and her children.

To start with, the Governor’s wife has made an initial personal donation of Five Hundred Thousand naira only, in support of plans to provide immediate accommodation, food supplies and other basic necessities for the young family of five”, the release reads in parts.

The release, however, promised that in the coming days, updates would be made available for the benefit of individuals and organisations willing to be involved in plans to provide sustainable help for Grace and her children.
