Akobundu had challenged the declaration of Darlington Nwokocha of the Labour Party (LP) as the winner of the Abia Central Senatorial poll by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal in Umuahia had on September 11, dismissed Akobundu’s petition for lack of merit but the Court of Appeal on November 4, set aside the ruling.

A three-member panel of Justices, in its ruling, upheld the appeal filed by the PDP’s candidate and declared him the authentic winner of the February 25 Senatorial election for Abia Central.
