August 31, (THEWILL) – Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi, the First Vice President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), announced his desire to contest for the presidency of the Federation on Tuesday, in Abuja.
In his manifesto, Akinwunmi stated that if elected to succeed Amaju Pinnick as president, he will pursue a four-point plan to revitalise Nigerian football. Speaking on this, Akinwunmi, who doubles as the Lagos state FA President noted: “I have conceptualised the pathway to make Nigeria Football great again.
“It is football first, and leverages on four Pillars; football development, the business of football, football infrastructure and football technology. These will uniquely turn things around and take us back to the top of world football.”
At the official announcement in Abuja, dignitaries included the Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by the state’s Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Olusegun Dawodu, sports businessman Kunle Soname, and other candidates for the NFF presidency, Shehu Dikko, Shehu Gusau, Musa Ahmadu, and Peterside Idah.
Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima, a former NFA chairman, Dr. Ahmed Tijani, a former general secretary, and Dr. Danladi Bako, a prominent broadcaster and a former director general of the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC), all attended the event. Elections for the executive board of the Nigeria Football Federation are slated for September 30 in Benin.
