April 21, (THEWILL) – A former commissioner for information in Cross River State, Chief Akin Ricketts, has kicked off consultations with stakeholders in the Central Senatorial District of Cross River State for his senatorial ambition.
The consultations are aimed at intimating stakeholders of his plan to join the race to represent the district in the national assembly.
As part of his consultative visits, Chief Ricketts and his team engaged the traditional leaders and stakeholders in Yakurr, Abi and Obubra local government areas.
Chief Ricketts told the stakeholders that he will perform, stating that he has what it takes to represent the district in the national assembly and he will perform more than their expectations.
He told the stakeholders that he is not coming as a usual politician, but from the private sector and that he has a record of delivering on his promises.
He promised to help in reducing the level of poverty and joblessness, which are rife in the senatorial district when he emerges as senator.
In his reaction, the Paramount Ruler of Yakurr and Obol Lopon of Ugep Obol Ofem Eteng Ubana said Chief Ricketts is the best man for the job.
He disclosed that no Ugep son has ever been senator and that as they have been farming for others, it’s time for others to farm for them.
The Campaign Team also paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Ruler of Abi LGA HRM Ovai Edward Solomon, as well as the traditional institution in Obubra, who blessed the ambition of Chief Ricketts.
Similar visits were also paid to the the chairman and leaders of Yakurr, Abi and Obubra local government areas respectively.
At Yakurr, the chairman, Ofem Obeten, said the Yakurr people believe in him and that the people love him because he did something for them they will never forget.
He said Chief Ricketts has the blessings of the people and pledged support to his ambition.
On his part, the chairman of Obubra, Tom Bassey Agara, said the people of Obubra will join forces with Chief Ricketts both spiritually and physically to ensure he succeeds.
He said he has personally worked with Chief Ricketts for a long time and is convinced he is a technocrat and his qualities will take him above all aspirants.
The chairman of Abi, Faraton Robinson, said the people of Abi are solidly behind the aspiration of Chief Ricketts.
As part of the visit, the Ricketts Campaign team also visited APC ward chairmen and their secretaries in the aforementioned LGAs, who pledged their unflinching support to Chief Akin Rickett.
In his remarks, the Director General of the Campaign Organisation, Bishop Chris Obase, said the area is in dire need of Chief Ricketts in the Senate.
He said Chief Ricketts has done well for himself and others, citing that, no aspirant has matched his charisma thus far.
The consultative visit will also berth at Ikom, Etung and Boki local government areas.
