August 28, (THEWILL) – Manchester United’s pursuit of Antony, who is still insistent on leaving the club, has not changed, according to Ajax manager, Alfred Schreuder.
The Brazilian international was left out of the matchday squad for Sunday’s trip to Utrecht, for the second straight time. As THEWILL reported, Ajax turned down United’s third offer of €90m, making Antony publicly express his wish to leave the team and advance his career at United.
Schreuder acknowledged that there was no chance the 22-year-old would be able to rejoin the team for Sunday’s game even though Ajax were being stubborn despite United’s desperation and Antony’s insistence on leaving.
Schreuder said: “The Antony situation hasn’t changed compared to last week. We discuss it internally every day, also with the player. He reports himself to the club and we speak about it. But I want to focus on the players we have here, for now Antony is not important.”
United’s €90 million offer, in the opinion of Antony’s representatives, is more than a fair price, and they are pleading with Edwin van der Sar, CEO of Ajax and former United goalkeeper, to approve the winger’s departure. Van der Sar agreed to sell Lisandro Martinez to United earlier this summer, and Antony is hoping the CEO will soon do the same for him.
