February 12, (THEWILL) – Ajax continued their recent upward trend with a third consecutive win in their fixture against RKC Waalwijk at the Johan Cruijff Arena in Amsterdam.
The first half of the match was not quite what was expected from Ajax as they fell behind in the 17th minute with a Mats Seuntjens goal for the visitors. Ajax manager Johnny Heitinga responded by making changes during the half-time break. Calvin Bassey and Brian Brobbey were brought on for Davy Klaassen and Francisco Conceição, while the rest of the starting lineup was rearranged.
The changes paid off quickly as Brobbey scored in the second half to give Ajax the equaliser. However, the tempo after the break did not last as a sluggish second half performance followed the Ajax goal.
Fortunately, Ajax were finally able to inch ahead in the 78th minute. A free-kick from Steven Berghuis was supplied to Jurriën Timber to finish off via a Bassey assist. Moments later, Mohammed Kudus added another goal to secure the three points for the Amsterdam-based club.
The win keeps Ajax in contention for the top spots in the Eredivisie, much to the delight of the home supporters.
