Some domestic operators, including Air Peace and Azman airlines, have started to withdraw their flight services to Kaduna Airport.
As at Tuesday, THEWILL gathered that the airlines stopped their services due to the incident that has to do with gun attack around the airport at the weekend.
Gunmen suspected to be bandit had on Saturday afternoon, attacked the Kaduna airport, killing the guard at the Voice Omni directional Radio (VOR) site, a Navigational Aids equipment belonging to the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA).
The sudden attack, which took place at about 12 noon, affected the smooth take off of flights as most of the airport workers were running helter skelter for safety.
According to industry source, the guard of the site of the Navigational aids (Navaids), which is one kilometer away from the runway, was killed.
The source added that the technical staff and other staff ran for safety after the guard was killed.
“It’s true, bandits attacked our Navaids site, which is a kilometer away from the runway, they killed the watchman, while the technical staff ran back, we alerted the military and they responded swiftly, the situation is now under control by the military, the few flights were able to take off afterwards”, the source hinted.
This is not the first time gunmen would be attacking Kaduna Airport. In March last year, the airport staff quarters very close to the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) were invaded.
During the incident, about 12 persons, including a staff of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) and his entire family, together with a wife and child of staff of Nigeria Meteorological Agency, NiMET, were kidnapped.
