Agura Of Gbagura Joins Ancestors Four Years After Ascending Throne

June 17, (THEWILL) – His Royal Majesty, Oba Babajide Bakre, Jamolu II, the Agura of Gbagura, is dead.

The monarch, who is one of the five first-class kings in Abeokuta, died on Wednesday, 14th June 2023, while nursing an undisclosed ailment.

He reportedly died at a Lagos hospital.

His death came as a rude shock to his subjects considering his age and years on the throne. He had only spent four years on the throne before death snatched him. He was crowned king on May 21, 2019, by former Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun.

A retired customs officer, Oba Bakre, who celebrated his 61st birthday recently, was the 9th Agura of Gbagura.

He was widely known as a unifier and a promoter of peace among all the components of Egbaland and Ogun state in general.
