February 17, (THEWILL) – Former Argentina and Barcelona forward, Sergio Aguero, has refuted the veracity of fake photos that were manipulated to depict him in a brothel.
Recently, disturbing pictures surfaced online that seemed to portray Aguero at a brothel in Spain’s Orihuela region, accompanied by renowned Twitch streamer, Ibai Llanos. However, the Spanish magazine Hola.com has now confirmed that the photos were fake and created by a Twitter user.
The retired footballer took to Twitter to express his disbelief over the pictures, stating, “They are sausages.” The phrase, ‘salchichas’ utilised by Aguero translates literally to ‘sausages’ in English. However, it is a benign Argentine expression that means “fools,” underscoring the foolishness of fabricating such vulgar pictures online.
In response, Hola issued a statement saying: “This is a clear example of what they call fake news and what the media fight against. The screenshots that are seen in this tweet are false, it is a montage. The HOLA design has been used to fake something that has never been produced. We are taking legal action on this.”
This episode illustrates the perils of fake news and the importance of verifying information before sharing it. Despite the fact that the images were fabricated, they were still disseminated on social media platforms, spreading untrue and defamatory information.
