October 12, (THEWILL) – Massimiliano Allegri’s job is not in danger and he will not be fired, according to Juventus president Andrea Agnelli, following the team’s humiliating loss to Maccabi Haifa.
Losses to AC Milan and Haifa during the last week added insult to injury for La Vecchia Signora’s dreadful starts to their domestic and international campaigns. Juve has only won four games this season and is currently eighth in Serie A and third in their UEFA Champions League group.
Allegri’s future at the club has been questioned as a result of this performance, but speaking after the 2-0 loss at the Sammy Ofer Stadium on Tuesday night, Agnelli reaffirmed that the manager’s position is secure, saying: “Massimiliano Allegri is our head coach and he will stay.
“I feel ashamed and angry…so in this kind of situation you can’t blame one single person, it’s the whole group.”
Allegri himself refused to throw in the towel when queried about the team’s form. He said: “No, when a challenge becomes difficult, it is even more exciting. We’ve got to emerge from this with courage and hunger. We must emerge from this situation and keep quiet. Tomorrow we return to Turin and we’ll remain at the Continassa training ground until the derby. It’s not a technical or tactical issue, this team lacks heart and passion. We play too much as individuals, we need to get back to being a team.”
