April 30, (THEWILL) – President Muhammad Buhari has approved the extension of the tenure of the Comptroller General of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Isah Idris Jere.
A statement by the Public Relations Officer of NIS, Comptroller Tony Akuneme, said Jere would remain in office till May 29.
Akuneme said the extension of tenure was contained in the letter of extension from Buhari, signed by the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof Ibrahim Gambari.
THEWILL earlier reported that some concerned officers of the Service had petitioned President Buhari, over an alleged move by Jere to seek another tenure extension after the initial one-year tenure extension lapsed on April 24, 2023.
Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari had, in a letter dated April 22, 2022, and addressed to the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, through Prof Gambari, announced the approval of the extension of Jere’s tenure by one year after the expiration of his tenure in 2022.
