February 13, (THEWILL) – President Muhammadu Buhari, on Monday, met with the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
While details of the closed-door meeting are still sketchy, THEWILL reports it may not be unconnected to the new naira policy of the apex bank.
The CBN had fixed February 10 as deadline for the old N200, N500 and N1000 banknotes to seize as legal tender, but the Supreme Court restrained the apex bank from effecting the deadline.
While the Kogi, Kaduna, Zamfara, Kano, Ondo and Niger State governments had taken the federal government to court to challenge the new naira policy, the Council of State on Friday, advised the CBN to print more naira notes or recirculate the old banknotes to the system to meet urgent demand of cash by Nigerians.
