Jully 19, (THEWILL) – Ghana’s national women’s football team, the Black Queens, demonstrated their dominance in the African Women’s Olympic qualifying, clinching a spot in the next stage with an impressive 4-0 victory over Guinea in Accra.

The second-leg triumph, combined with their earlier 3-0 win in Conakry, resulted in a resounding 7-0 aggregate victory. Evelyn Badu emerged as the hero of the match, netting two brilliant goals, while Pricilla Adubea and substitute Fridaus Yakubu also found the net, contributing to a comprehensive win at the Accra Sports Stadium. With their quarter-final spot sealed, Ghana is now set to face Benin in October’s second-round showdown.

In addition to Ghana’s victory, Benin and Namibia also delivered impressive performances in their respective second-leg encounters in the qualifiers. Benin managed to edge past Guinea-Bissau with a 3-2 victory in Cotonou, securing a 5-4 aggregate win. Meanwhile, Namibia pulled off a 2-0 aggregate victory over Equatorial Guinea, with a goalless draw in Malabo demonstrating their defensive tactics.

The victors move one step closer to qualifying for the Paris 2024 Olympics, with the next round of qualifiers set to take place in October. The race for the Olympic qualification saw other notable performances, with Uganda advancing past Rwanda 4-3 on aggregate after a narrow 1-0 away win in Kigali. Ethiopia displayed their dominance with an impressive 10-0 victory over Chad over the two legs.

Meanwhile, Mali held on to beat Burkina Faso 3-2 overall following a 2-2 draw in the second leg in Bamako. With their quarter-final spots secured, these teams will be eager to continue their journey towards the Paris 2024 Olympics.
