November 01, (THEWILL) – Chairman of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) Imo State chapter, Nneoma Ukpabi, has denied an allegation of defrauding a member of the guild.
Nneoma was suspended over the alleged misconduct.
Explaining the reason for her suspension in a recent post on Instagram, AGN national president, Emeka Rollas, posted a video of an injured woman identified as Favour, who claimed to be a newly recruited member of the association.
According to Favour, who also claimed she had been staying with Nneoma at a hotel in Asaba, Delta State, Ukpabi collected N400,000 from her with the promise to help her travel abroad. When she confronted the actress, the suspended chairman allegedly locked her up and asked her boys to assault her.
However, in a recent video shared on Instagram, Nneoma claimed that she did not collect money from Favour, she also dared her accuser to provide proof of payment, adding that she is willing to go to jail if found guilty.
She said: “A certain girl said I defrauded her to the tune of 400k. But I’m here to say that she lied against me. She lied against my person. Firstly, can she prove with any evidence that I defrauded her of 400k? If she can be able to prove it to the public, I am willing to go to jail without trial.
“Secondly, this same girl, I harbored, fed, accepted her. I took her in like a daughter, we used to play like mother and daughter. I introduced her to the Actors Guild of Nigeria, I did not collect a dime from her. Rather I belong to an organization, and this organization was going for a trip in Europe and this same girl pleaded with me to add her name. I told her I am paying like others are paying. Can she be able to afford it? That the amount is 400k for every arrangement. She said she would go.”
Nneoma, who shared a receipt of the payment continued; “At first she paid 100 thousand naira to the organizers’ account on 7th of October. Secondly, she paid another 100 thousand naira. She paid another 100 thousand naira to the organizers’ account. No payment was made to me. All of a sudden she woke up one morning and told me that she did not understand the process of this travel. I made several calls to so many people that knows about travelling.”
Speaking further, the actress, who got emotional while narrating what transpired, said the matter was taken to the police and the organizers refunded 100,000,00 to Favour.
Nneoma Ukpabi also said she is waiting for the AGN disciplinary committee to provide evidence of fraud.
