October 02, (THEWILL) – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member representing Ukwa East/West Federal Constituency of Abia State in the House of Representatives, Christian Nkwonta, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Reps Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, announced Nkwonta’s defection in a letter read at the plenary session on Wednesday.
Reacting to the defection, the Deputy Minority Leader, Aliyu Madaki, raised a point of order, citing Section 68 of the Constitution. He argued that Mr Nkwonta’s seat should be declared vacant in line with the provision of Section 68.
In his response, Speaker Abbas acknowledged the existence of a faction within the PDP, which could justify the lawmaker’s defection.
