SAN FRANCISCO, April 17, (THEWILL) – The Abia State government has demolished four buildings at Etitiama Nkporo in Ohafia LGA allegedly being used as operational bases by kidnappers.

Speaking with newsmen after the demolition exercise, the Security Adviser to the Governor, Awa Udensi Agwu, disclosed that there was an existing law in the state that any building that harboured kidnappers stood to be demolished, adding that the demolition exercise had reemphasised that stand.

According to Agwu, the government believes that the buildings at Ndinkefa compound in Amafo-Nkporo, were used to harbour suspected kidnappers who allegedly kidnapped a man at Aba and hid him in one of the demolished buildings.

However, luck ran out of the kidnappers as the villagers, on noticing strange movements around the building, reported to the traditional ruler of the community who subsequently alerted soldiers. The soldiers promptly came to the rescue and arrested one of the suspects while the main culprit, whose name was given as Agbai Agbai Kalu escaped.

Agwu also applauded the security agencies in the state, especially the military for being alive to their responsibilities and commended the indigenes of Nkporo for promptly reporting unusual movement in their vicinity to security agents without fear.

Also at the event was, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Godwin Adindu who assured that there would be no hiding place for criminals in the state, adding that any building used for kidnapping in the state would be demolished.

Adindu also warned the youths to desist from crime to avoid bringing hardship to their people.
