November 05, (THEWILL) – The Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, has sacked the Labour Party (LP) member representing Abia Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Darlington Nwokocha.
The court, in a judgement delivered on Saturday, by a three-member panel of Justices, declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Col Austin Akobundu (retd), as the duly elected senator for Abia Central.
Nwokocha is the Senate Minority Whip. The court upturned the ruling of the National Assembly election petition tribunal, which earlier upheld his victory in the February 25 polls for Abia Central.
Akobundu, a retired army colonel and former Minister of Defence (State) under the Goodluck Jonathan administration, had challenged the declaration and return of Nwokocha (ex-member representing Isiala-Ngwa North & South Federal Constituency) as the winner of the Abia Central Senatorial District election.
