May 31, (THEWILL) – The Prelate of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Samuel Kanu-Uche, has regained his freedom about 24 hours after he was abducted.

Kanu-Uche was said to have been kidnapped alongside the Bishop of Owerri, Rt. Rev. Dennis Mark and the Prelate’s Chaplain, on Sunday in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State.

They were abducted while on their way from a programme in the council area.

The Archbishop of Ilesa, Akinlose Akindeko, who confirmed the release of the abductors said they were in good health but looked “tired and needed rest”.

THEWILL had earlier reported that their abductors had demanded N100m ransom for their freedom. But Akindeko could not confirm whether any ransom was paid.

They regained their freedom hours after the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) called on President Muhammadu Buhari to “give an express order to the security agencies to free them immediately and stop the incessant abduction of clerics and other innocent Nigerians forthwith.”
