BEVERLY HILLS, February 15, (THEWILL) – About 45 passengers narrowly escaped with their lives today after fire gutted the Bus Rapid Transport vehicle conveying them.
The incident happened around 11am at the Idiroko-Anthony area of Lagos State.
According to sources, the BRT bus was en route to TBS terminal, Lagos Island from Ikorodu terminal.
The unfortunate vehicle had been sent as a replacement after the passengers’ initial bus that had broken down at the Owode area of Ikorodu Lagos.
Although no passenger died, many of them sustained varying degrees of injuries while trying to escape.
The spokesperson of the National Emergency Management Agency, Ibrahim Farinloye, confirmed the incident in a statement.
He said, “NEMA, Police Disaster Management Unit, and fire service rescued the passengers unhurt. There was a rescue bus to assist in evacuating stranded passengers from a broken-down bus.
“The initial bus carrying the passengers took off from Ikorodu but broke down at Owode which caused the burnt bus to come to the aid of the passengers.”
