40 Feared Dead As Boko Haram Bombs Gombe Bus Station

…Police Arrest Three Suspects

BEVERLY HILLS, October 30, (THEWILL) – Boko Haram insurgents, Friday morning, at a bus station belonging to the Gombe State Transport Company, Gombe Line, in Gombe, detonated a bomb that ripped through the massive compound, killing no fewer than 40 persons.

The bomb went off at about 9am when the bus station was full of activities, with people traveling outside the state capital.

Expressing shock at the incident, some residents disclosed that about 40 charred remains of the victims littered the bus station after the explosion

“It was quite unfortunate that today (Friday) will go down in the history of Gombe as Black Friday as the usually packed full terminus of the state transport authority aka Gombe Line was attacked by suspected terrorists,” an eye witness, Ibrahim Isa, said.

According to him, “At about 9 am, an improvised explosive device went off at the park, while passengers were boarding commercial vehicles to various destinations across the country. The blast left scores of people dead, with many others sustaining various degrees of injury and 12 vehicles torched.”

Speaking at the scene of the incident, the state Commissioner of Police, Kudu Nma, lamented that an explosion of such magnitude had violated the peace of the state. He however confirmed the arrest of three suspects believed to be behind the attack. The suspects were alleged to have sneaked into the park in a Volkswagen Sharon bus, with the inscription Yobe Line on it before the bomb went off.

Though the Police Chief could not ascertain the casualty figure when filing this report, an attendant at the mortuary of the Specialist Hospital confirmed that 23 corpses were brought to the hospital from the scene of the incident.

A corpse was also said to have been deposited at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe.
Fortunate to have survived the attack, Joshua Aminu, said he was already inside a vehicle that was headed for Kano when bomb went off. The bus station has however been cordoned off with security beefed up in the town.
