September 24, (THEWILL) – UEFA has announced that its 2027 Champions League final will not be held in Milan as previously planned. The decision comes amid uncertainties over the future of the iconic San Siro stadium and its surroundings.
In a statement, UEFA revealed that the Municipality of Milano could not guarantee that the San Siro stadium and its immediate area would not be affected by refurbishment works during the period of the 2027 UCL final. As a result, UEFA has decided not to assign the prestigious final to Milan.
The bidding process to find a suitable venue for the final has now been reopened, with a decision expected in May or June 2025. This comes after Budapest was named as the host city for the 2026 final.
Milan and Budapest were the only candidates for the 2026 and 2027 Champions League finals, but UEFA’s decision to move the 2027 final away from Milan has now created an open bidding process for that year’s showpiece event.
The news will be a disappointment for football fans in Milan, who were hoping to see Europe’s premier club competition reach its climax in their city. However, UEFA’s priority is to ensure the final can be hosted in a venue that can fully accommodate the event and provide an exceptional experience for players and supporters alike.
