October 21, (THEWILL) – The African Action Congress (AAC) has sought the approval of President Bola Tinubu to inaugurate the Presidential Campaign Council of its 2027 presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, at the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, Abuja.

The party, which proposed November 11, 2026, for the inauguration, also requested food, drinks and other logistical support for 5,000 participants expected to attend the event from within Nigeria and abroad.

THEWILL reports that the requests were contained in a letter dated October 21, 2026, addressed to President Tinubu and signed by the AAC National Secretary, Oshiokhue Philip Ikpeminoghena.

Titled, “Request For Approval To Hold The Inauguration Of The AAC Presidential Campaign Council At The Presidential Villa And For Logistical Support For 5,000 Persons From Home And Abroad”, Ikpeminoghena said the proposed inauguration at the Presidential Villa would form part of the party’s preparations for the 2027 general elections.

“On behalf of the African Action Congress (AAC), I respectfully write to request approval to hold the inauguration ceremony of our Presidential Campaign Council on the 11th of November 2026 at the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, Abuja, in preparation for the 2027 general elections”, the letter read.

The party said its request was based on the principles of multiparty democracy, political inclusiveness and equal treatment of political parties. It also asked the Presidency to provide feeding and logistical support for the 5,000 participants, citing arrangements it said were reportedly extended to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) during a similar political event.

“In the spirit of multiparty democracy, political inclusiveness, and equal treatment of political parties, we also request the provision of food, drinks, and other logistical support for 5,000 participants from home and abroad at the event, consistent with the arrangements reportedly extended to the All Progressives Congress (APC) for a similar political engagement”, the party said.

The AAC argued that granting the request would demonstrate the Presidency’s commitment to fairness and equal access to public institutions irrespective of political affiliation.

“We believe that granting this request would demonstrate the Presidency’s commitment to fairness, equal access, and the principle that public institutions must serve all Nigerians without partisan discrimination”, it added.

The party asked Tinubu to favourably consider the application and provide information on the procedures and conditions required to secure approval for the event.

“We look forward to your favourable consideration of this request and would appreciate information on the applicable procedures and conditions for its approval”, the letter stated.

The African Action Congress AAC has sought the approval of President Bola Tinubu to inaugurate the Presidential Campaign Council of its 2027 presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore at the Presidential Villa Aso Rock Abuja

Background

The AAC’s request follows the recent inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council at the State House Conference Centre, Presidential Villa, Abuja, as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.

President Tinubu inaugurated the ruling party’s campaign council on October 14, 2026, with senior APC figures, governors, ministers and other party leaders attending the ceremony.

The development prompted questions over the use of a federal government facility for a ruling party campaign event, with the AAC now seeking similar access for the inauguration of its own campaign structure.

In its letter, however, the AAC did not challenge the legality of the APC event. Instead, it specifically anchored its request on what it described as the need for “multiparty democracy, political inclusiveness, and equal treatment of political parties.”

The party is consequently asking the Presidency to permit Sowore’s campaign council to hold its November 11 inauguration at the same seat of government and to extend logistical arrangements similar to those it says were provided for the APC event.

Sowore is the AAC presidential candidate for the 2027 election, as political parties intensify preparations and activate their campaign structures ahead of the general elections.

The Presidency had not announced a response to the AAC request as of the time of filing this report.
