2023: Cash Crunch Hits Tinubu Campaign Council

January 24, (THEWILL) – With barely thirty days to the 2023 presidential election in Nigeria, cash crunch has created a set back in the campaign organisation of the APC presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

A member of the campaign council in Plateau State, who confided in our reporter that the Council is experiencing scarcity of funds, also noted that since the composition of the council and listing of the various sub-committees, none of the committees have been able to get down to work because of lack of financial mobilisation.

According to the source, some of the members of the committees are yet to know themselves because they have not been able to meet to strategise and consider the options of how to approach grassroots sensitisation.

In the absence of funds, he said, “What members of the Council have decided to do is to meet at committee levels to develop a modus operandi, while they await mobilisation and directives from the national directorate of the campaign.”

He said apart from the radio and television jingles of the presidential candidate that appear to be renting the air every now and then, physical campaign efforts are poor or below average, creating fears that elaborate the campaign council may not achieve much at the end of day in terms of votes scored by the candidate.

Some activities and initiatives since the inauguration and flag off of the campaign, he said, were sponsored by some friends and associates of the candidate, maintaining that such volunteer and interventionist subsidies are already drying up.

He observed that the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Council needs to work round the clock because there is much to be done.

“Apart from the strength of the menacing opposition parties in Plateau and other parts of the country, the situation in Plateau is particularly worrisome. The accumulated injustices and grudges in the party can’t be wished away easily, just as the disagreements and disquiet stirred by sharp practices that shaped the flag off event in Jos last November are still unsettling.”

Last sunday’s town hall meeting, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, wife of the APC presidential candidate, with stakeholders at Crispan Hotel, Jos, was largely boycotted by the Christian community and opinion leaders, and it ended up largely as a failure, a situation, he said, requires the campaign to be intensified as the race gets keener in the final lap.

In a similar vein, the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Secretariat in the GRA, Jos, has continued to be under lock and key, desolate, and at best a road side decoration, more than two months after campaigns flag off, and with barely thirty days to decision time.
