May 04, (THEWILL) – A controversial banner conspicuously erected at Ikot Ekpene Township Stadium, venue of presidential aspiration declaration by the Hon Minister, Niger Delta Affairs, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, is generating tension in Akwa Ibom State, especially among the ruling PDP in the state.
The banner with the caption “People’s Democratic Party, Akwa Ibom State Chapter in support of His Excellency, Chief Dr Godswill Akpabio for President in 2023”, became a Centre of attention to participants at the event.
The development has indeed thrown members of the political class into confusion considering the fact that the leader of the party and Governor of the state, Mr Udom Emmanuel, is also aspiring to take over the country’s top job from Buhari come 2023 under the PDP.
Giving reasons for the action, a man who claimed to be a member of PDP at the venue told THEWILL correspondent that the action was taken, because the Governor failed to consult the party in the state before embarking on such a significant contest.
It is no longer news that Mr Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, the incumbent Governor of Akwa Ibom State, is seeking an opportunity to serve Nigeria as her president in 2023, even as BereketeTV had gone ahead to purchase an expression of interest and nomination forms to encourage his ambition.
“Charity they say begins at home. How can our Governor be going round the country to consult for a presidential election without first of all informing Akwa Ibom people?
“We have seen a true son of Akwa Ibom State and we are ready to support him”, the source, who craved anonymity explained.
