August 19, (THEWILL) – Cesare Casadei, an Italian midfielder, has signed for Chelsea on a long-term contract from Inter.
The 19-year-old, who has yet to play a minute of senior football, made an impression playing against Carney Chukwuemeka of England, who recently joined Chelsea for over £20 million, at the European Under-19 Championships this summer. In a move that will cost an initial €15m plus an additional €5m in add-ons, Casadei has now followed suit and signed a six-year contract.
Neil Bath, the Blues Head of Youth Development, said: “Cesare is a player we have tracked for some time and we are delighted that he has now agreed to join Chelsea, where he will initially strengthen our Under-21s squad. He is another exciting emerging talent who we are looking forward to seeing develop and progress further as he breaks into senior football in the coming years.”
Last year, Casadei often participated in training sessions with Inter’s first team and, after establishing himself as one of the team’s most promising young players, even made it to the bench for a Serie A match against Sassuolo.
Last season, while working out with the senior team, Casadei played for Inter’s development team, scoring 14 goals and dishing out four assists in 30 league games. He also added two goals in seven UEFA Youth League appearances.
