August 22, (THEWILL) – Police in Ogun State have arrested a 17-year-old medical student of a yet-to-be-ascertained Lagos University for allegedly assaulting a three-year-old girl (name withheld) at a birthday party in Ibafo Area of the State
The suspect, Great Orogun, was said to have lured the minor to his parents’ house during a birthday ceremony of one of his neighbours and inserted his penis into her mouth.
He was arrested following a report by a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) to CSP Kazeem Solotan at the Ibafo Divisional Police.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed this to newsmen in a statement in Abeokuta, the State capital, on Monday.
Odutola explained that the girl confessed to her mother while questioning her about the birthday that the suspect sexually abused her by allegedly kissing her and putting his male genitalia into her mouth.
The Police PRO further explained that since then the minor has been traumatised and has shown signs of psychological breakdown and the mother of two has written in her statement that she wants justice served.
“The innocent three-year-old girl was answering questions put across to her by her mother when, in a friendly conversation, the mother asked her if she enjoyed the party. In her little voice, the three-year-old girl innocently narrated what Great did to her. She further said Great closed the door of the kitchen, lifted her and put his tongue into her mouth.
“At the wake of Sunday morning 20th August 2023, an NGO called that they want a detailed investigation into the case. The mother of the girl child has further stated that her daughter is traumatised and has shown signs of psychological breakdown. The mother of two has written in her statement that she wants justice served,” She said.
Odutola, however, noted that the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Police Command Headquarters, CP Alamutu Mustaph, has been briefed and he has ordered an immediate investigation into the allegation, affirming the child’s rights.
The CP also assured of sterling investigation while enjoining parents to imbibe authoritative parenting skills in order to abate the rising trends of sexual violation incidents in the State.
