Yobe PDP: Group Faults Minister’s Leadership Style

BEVERLY HILLS, November 23, (THEWILL) – Indications have emerged that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may be inching towards extinction in Yobe State due to the leadership style of its executives.

A group of youths within the party raised the alarm on Sunday, warning that if the leadership style remains unchanged, the electoral fortunes of the party in the forthcoming general elections might be worse than the 2011 experience.

The youths faulted the leadership style of the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Abdul Bulama, who is the leader of the party in the state . They lamented the factionalisation of the party in the state into three groups, namely the Adamu Waziri Group, Yerima Ngama Group and the Neutral Group , all fighting for the soul of the party.

It would be recalled that the party did not win a single seat in Yobe in 2011 and President Goodluck Jonathan, the PDP presidential candidate, did not score the required 25 percent vote in the state.

The youths said the key to success for the party in the state is a change of leadership style, urging the leadership to learn from the National chairman of the party, Alhaji Adamu Muazu, who is building bridges all over the country.

Abubakar Adamu, a concerned youth in the Yobe PDP, said at a media briefing in Damaturu that Bulama is making the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state to gain more grounds to the detriment of the PDP.

“I think President Jonathan needs to know that the PDP in Yobe state is into another bad time again. We felt that our current minister who is the leader of the party in the state will carry everybody along especially considering the moves by our National Chairman Adamu Muazu to salvage the party in the state.

“Unfortunately, Dr. Bulama is not a politician and he is not ready to learn from people on ground. We want the minister to realise that the party is very important to us and we are committed to working for the success of the party come 2015 with the right leadership but Dr. Bulama has so far failed to do this,” he said.

Spokesman of the minister, Hassan Gimba Ahmed, however defended his boss, saying the minister is working very hard to deliver the party in the state.

He explained that Bulama had convened a stakeholders meeting of the party in Damaturu, saying the meeting was geared towards achieving success at next year’ selection.

“Those accusing Dr. Bulama are not fair to him. The minister is working very hard to ensure electoral victories for the party in Yobe state at all levels. For the first time in the history of the party, the minister hosted a successful stakeholders meeting in Damaturu with all the leaders in attendance,” Ahmed said.
