July 24, (THEWILL) – Afro pop music star, Yemi Alade, has called out media outlets amid a report that Canada denied her visa to perform at a concert in the country.

The 33-year-old singer was originally listed as one of the headliners for the closing day of the Festival International Nuits d’Afrique, to be held today.

But she was reportedly denied a visa by the country.

Suzanne Rousseau, the festival co-founder, had announced that the visa denial was due to financial reasons, and for fears that the group, that is, Yemi Alade’s crew wouldn’t leave Canada.

“Finally, we got an answer saying the musicians were refused, saying they have to guarantee that they have enough financial means that will make them go back to their country”, she had said.

Alade recently confirmed her absence from the concert, but didn’t speak on the controversy trailing the visa denial.

But in a Twitter post on Sunday, the ‘Johnny’ crooner took a swipe at the media over what she called “verbatim journalism.”

She also claimed the media is trying to use her name for the purpose of clickbait.

The musician called on the media to address her as the international Grammy winning musician.

“Dear media, when you are done using my name as click bait, add somewhere at the end of your verbatim journalism, add this; ‘international Grammy winning musician Yemi Alade released a fire tune called #Begging…*then add your verbatim* thanks,” she wrote.

Yemi featured in ‘Dignity’, the lead single off ‘Mother Nature’, Angelique Kidjo’s album. The album won the ‘Best Global Album’ category at the 2022 Grammy awards.
