June 29, (THEWILL) – Caroline Wozniacki, the former tennis world number one, has announced her comeback to the sport after retiring in 2020, to start a family.

Wozniacki, who spent 71 weeks as the top-ranked player and won 30 singles titles, including the 2018 Australian Open, revealed her decision on Thursday. Having enjoyed three years with her family and becoming a mother to her daughter, Olivia, and son, James, she expressed her desire to pursue her goals and set an example for her children.

Wozniacki plans to participate in the Canadian Open in August to regain her form and is eyeing the US Open, with her ultimate aim being the 2024 Olympics in Paris. In an article for Vogue magazine, the Danish player was excited about returning to the tennis scene, particularly mentioning her love for the electric atmosphere in New York, making the US Open a must-play tournament for her.

She also cited Serena Williams as a source of inspiration, praising the 23-time Grand Slam champion for her successful return to the sport after giving birth to her daughter Olympia. Wozniacki acknowledged Williams’ significant impact on women’s tennis, stating that she paved the way for many players and demonstrated that anything is possible. Wozniacki’s decision to come out of retirement and return to professional tennis has been met with enthusiasm.
