Woods Outlines Comeback Plan, Aims To Play A Tournament Per Month In 2024

November 28, (THEWILL) – Golf legend, Tiger Woods, has unveiled an ambitious plan to return to professional golf in 2024, stating he hopes to compete in one tournament per month starting in February.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday for the Hero World Challenge event he hosts in the Bahamas, the 47-year-old outlined his intention to play the Genesis Invitational in February followed by an additional event in March, before gearing up for the majors beginning in April.

Woods withdrew from the Masters Tournament in April due to ongoing issues with plantar fasciitis and later underwent ankle surgery. Whilst declaring himself pain-free in the previously problematic ankle, Woods admitted to now struggling with knee and back discomfort. However, the 15-time major winner emphatically affirmed he still believes he can claim tournament victories.

Much of Tuesday’s discourse centred around speculation of a deal being struck between the controversial Saudi-backed LIV Golf series and the PGA Tour ahead of a December 31 deadline. As one of the newly installed player directors on the PGA Tour policy board, Woods stated he has faith in Tour commissioner Jay Monahan to steer golf in the right direction going forward, despite frustrations over a previous agreement made with LIV backers without input from players.

For Woods, who nearly lost his leg in a devastating 2021 car accident, simply being able to walk 90 holes pain-free whilst caddying for his son at this week’s Hero World Challenge represents significant progress. Although the path ahead remains unclear, the driving motivation behind the legend’s latest comeback attempt is unambiguous – the icon still wants to compete and win at the highest level.
