November 05, (THEWILL) – Julen Lopetegui has been named manager of English Premier League side, Wolverhampton Wanderers, the club revealed on Saturday.
Subject to receiving work permits, the former manager of Spain, Real Madrid and Sevilla will assume control on November 14. Before then, Steve Davis will continue to serve as interim coach and will be in the Wolves dugout for Saturday’s home game against Brighton and Hove Albion.
According to Jeff Shi, the Wolves’ chairman: “Julen is a top coach, with excellent experience at an elite level of the game, and we are very pleased to have agreed a deal to bring him to Wolves.
“Since the very beginning, Julen has been our number one choice to manage Wolves, and we look forward to welcoming him and his team when they join us in the coming weeks.”
Lopetegui is set to take charge at Molineux following the final match before the World Cup break against Arsenal if all essential paperwork is finished. With only one victory since Lage’s departure, against Nottingham Forest, and one point under Davis earned in last week’s 1-1 draw against Brentford, Wolves are still in the bottom three.
