October 07, (THEWILL) – Fulham returned to winning ways in style with a 3-1 victory over Sheffield United at Craven Cottage. The Cottagers produced an impressive performance, led by a vintage display from veteran, Willian, who rolled back the years with a goal and two assists.
Bobby De Cordova-Reid opened the scoring for Fulham just after half-time, latching onto a pinpoint pass from Andreas Pereira. Sheffield United equalised against the run of play when Antonee Robinson turned the ball into his own net, but the Cottagers responded positively as Tom Cairney’s deflected strike restored their lead.
Willian capped off an excellent individual display by rifling home Fulham’s third goal deep into stoppage time. The 35-year-old Brazilian tormented the Blades all afternoon with his pace, skill and vision.
On the balance of play, Fulham were deserving winners, creating better chances throughout with Alex Iwobi again impressive. Their attacking play was excellent, with Willian instrumental, and they coped well defensively despite the absence of key players through injury for a much-needed three points for Marco Silva’s side.
Victory sees Fulham bounce back from their defeat to Chelsea in the West London derby on Monday. The win lifts them to 12th on the table, while Sheffield United remain rooted to the bottom after a difficult start to the season.
