BEVERLY HILLS, CA, January 11, (THEWILL) –  The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said its foundation, ideological background, manifesto, constitution and sustained patriotic leadership explain the reasons behind its national outlook and uncompromised commitment to social justice, unity of the country and the Nigerian project.

“This elucidates why the PDP, despite its challenges, has continued to fight for the national interest which remains superior to personal or group interests at all times,” the party said in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, on Saturday.

The party said its “ideological background expounds why it remains the foremost democratic political organisation in the country with internal mechanisms that guarantee enough space for all citizens to advance their views, interests and aspirations within the ambit of the wider national interest.” It added that “in the next few months, it will be clear to all that the the PDP indeed has no competition.”

The statement said further: “Unlike some political organisations which are established purely to advance the lust for power and greed of their leaders, the PDP was formed by credible and patriotic Nigerians, solely committed to selfless service and entrenchment of democracy; the unity of the nation as well as the welfare and prosperity of the people irrespective of ethnic and religious affiliations.

“Our ideological background and visions of our founding fathers which are based on the principles social justice, equity and internal democracy have continued to play out in the selection of our leaders and candidates for elections at all levels since inception. This is completely at variance with the practice in some parties where despotic individuals arrogate leadership positions to themselves and their stooges in utter disregard to democratic principles and views of their members.”

The PDP said the list of its national officers and leaders in addition to the distribution of political offices since inception show its respect for all sections and persuasions across the country as well as its unflinching commitment to national integration, power balance and harmonious co-existence.

This, it said is clearly illustrated in the distribution of its key national officers where the National Chairman is a Muslim from the North East; National Secretary, a Christian from the South West; National Organising Secretary, a Muslim from the North West; National Financial Secretary, a Christian from the South South; National Treasurer, a Muslim from the North West, National Publicity Secretary, a Christian from the South East; National Auditor a Muslim from South West; National Woman Leader, a Christian from South East; National Youth Leader, a Muslim from North Central and the National Legal Adviser, a Christian from the North Central.

The party noted that the same arrangement prevails in the distribution of other elected political office holders beginning with the President, the Vice President to the leadership of the National Assembly.

Stating that that it will never compromise its commitment towards social justice and provision of level play ground for all, the PDP urged its members and supporters across the country to continue to be steadfast assuring that it remains the pre-eminent party despite its challenges and will have no competition in 2015.

PDP said in the next few months, Nigerians will witness an explosion of dividends from the projects initiated and rigorously pursued by the PDP-led Federal Government in line with the Transformation Agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration
