March 04, (THEWILL) – Nollywood actress, Laide Bakare, is speaking out about the evolution of her friendship with her colleague, Funke Akindele, from once being intimate to now being distant.
Delving into their shared professional history, she shed light on a pivotal work encounter that appeared to sour their once amicable relationship, leaving it less than harmonious.
Laide peeled back the layers of her past work experience with her industry peer, Funke Akindele. She reminisced about a time when she and Funke shared a deep bond during the nascent stages of their illustrious movie career.
According to her, there’s no animosity between her and Funke, emphasising that Funke is best suited to address why she hasn’t cast her in her films and generally pulled back from her.
Reflecting on a past incident, Laide recounted how Funke failed to attend her debut movie premiere during their time at the University of Lagos. She found it weird when Funke received a call but didn’t show up for the event.
“I don’t know why. We started together, we were close from the beginning. Maybe she works with people she is comfortable with. I don’t know, she is in the best position to answer that. I have also not featured her in any of my movies before. I invited her more than two times. There was a time when I invited her to be my MC.
“There was another time I invited her to my first movie, we were at the University of Lagos then. She packed two different boxes of costumes, and as we were about to get onto the bus, I think she got a call. We spoke about it and she felt it was best she didn’t follow us.
“For me, it was weird. I started seeing her as someone who knows what she wants. She has been able to build herself and it works with her.”
