…PDP Blames Boycott On Fayemi’s Insincerity

BEVERLY HILLS, CA, July 19, (THEWILL) – The controversial referendum conducted Saturday by the Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission (EKSIEC) over the plan by the Governor Kayode Fayemi’s Administration to create new Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state was marred by voter apathy.

But the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state has attributed the boycott of the exercise to the insincerity of the outgoing government in its approach to the creation of the LCDAs.

A statement issued Saturday in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, by the State PDP Publicity Secretary, Pastor Kola Oluwawole, noted that out of the 170 wards in Ekiti State, more than 130 wards boycotted the exercise while those who participated did so under duress and cohesion of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The statement explained that most of the supposed beneficial communities knew abnitio that the whole process of creating the LCDAs was shrouded in controversy as a result of the contentious constitutional validity of the whole exercise.
The State PDP stressed that the people decided not to participate because they discovered that the creation of the LCDAs in the twilight of the administration of Governor Kayode Fayemi who was roundly defeated in last month’s governorship election was a vengeful mission to set one community against the other for not voting for him.

The PDP spokesman also said that the lacklustre attitude of the Ekiti people that led to the massive boycott of the Saturday referendum conducted by EKSIEC could be linked to the utterance of some notable members of the APC government that Fayemi should use all power at his disposal to set political landmine for the incoming PDP government led by the governor-elect, Mr. Ayo Fayose.

According to him, some also distanced themselves from the whole exercise due to fear of molestation and dangerous attack by thugs who were allegedly brought to Ekiti State by the leadership of APC to boost security for the EKSIEC and attack members of any opposition party or community. The thugs, according to the statement, were seen parading the street wielding different dangerous weapons on the eve of the illegal referendum.

The party also said that it has exposed the reason why the state Chief Judge, Justice Ayodeji Daramola, refused to assign the case instituted by the PDP against the creation of the LCDAs by the outgoing government .

According to the statement , the CJ was said to have allegedly supported the failed re-election bid of Governor Fayemi with substantial sum of money in the last month governorship election

The money was allegedly said to have been given to one Mrs. Christina Ojo who also work at the High Court for distribution to voters in order to allegedly induce them to vote for APC.
