The warning comes amid the circulation of potentially misleading information about visa requirements and application procedures, which the embassy said could lead to unnecessary expenses, confusion and possible fraud.
August 26, (THEWILL) — The German Embassy in Nigeria has warned Nigerians seeking visas against relying on information provided by so-called visa agents, declaring that it does not work with or have partnerships with such agents.
The embassy issued the warning on Wednesday through its official X account, urging prospective applicants to obtain visa-related information directly from the mission and other official German government channels.
“Beware of misinformation. Save yourself the hassle & just ask us directly”, the embassy said.
The mission further encouraged Nigerians to disclose some of the claims they had heard from “visa agents” so that it could address them publicly.
“Tell us some of the things you’ve heard from ‘visa agents’ in the comments, and we’ll answer in upcoming posts”, it added.

The embassy subsequently made its position on visa agents explicit, stressing that it has no partnership arrangement with individuals or businesses operating as visa agents.
“We do not work with any ‘visa Agents’!” the German mission stated.
The clarification is aimed at dispelling claims by some intermediaries who may suggest that they have official links to the embassy or possess special access that could influence the processing or outcome of visa applications.
The embassy also pointed out that relevant information about visa applications is freely available through its official website.
It, therefore, urged applicants to make use of official sources when seeking information on requirements, procedures and other issues relating to German visas.
According to the embassy, applicants could save themselves unnecessary costs and confusion by verifying information directly with the mission instead of accepting claims made by third parties.
