January 27, (THEWILL) – Vinicius Junior equalised in the 65th minute to spark Real Madrid’s comeback 2-1 victory away at Las Palmas on Saturday, in La Liga.
The Brazilian unleashed a superb left-footed strike from just inside the area to make it 1-1 after Javier Munoz had put the home side in front shortly after half-time.
Las Palmas proved tough opposition in the opening 45 minutes at Estadio Gran Canaria, registering the match’s first shot on target and roughing up Madrid players. Despite the home side’s spirited play, the teams went into halftime locked in a goalless stalemate.
The deadlock was broken when Munoz’s deflected effort beat Madrid keeper Andriy Lunin. However, Vinicius ensured Madrid’s deficit did not persist for long before equalising in style. With the score level at 1-1, substitute Aurelien Tchouameni headed home an 84th-minute winner to complete Madrid’s comeback.
The victory, which was hardly vintage from Carlo Ancelotti’s side, moves Real two points clear atop La Liga ahead of second-place Girona’s match on Sunday, away to Celta Vigo. Madrid had to show resilience to claim maximum points and continue their solid league form on the road.
