Verstappen Triumphs In Vegas, Extends Unstoppable 2023 Season

November 19, (THEWILL) – The neon lights of Las Vegas were shining brightly as the city played host to a thrilling and incident-filled Formula One Grand Prix. World champion, Max Verstappen, claimed his 18th win of the record-breaking season in a race that featured plenty of overtaking, lead changes and drama.

Verstappen started from second on the grid, but grabbed the lead on the opening lap before being hit with a five-second penalty for forcing Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc wide. Leclerc retook the lead on lap 16 before pit stops shuffled the order, allowing Red Bull’s Sergio Perez to hit the front.

Verstappen served his penalty but wasted no time slicing through the field, retaking the lead from Leclerc on lap 37. From there he remained in control, crossing the line 2.070 seconds clear of a charging Leclerc. The Monegasque produced a stunning last lap move on Perez to grab second place on the final lap.

The Las Vegas Grand Prix provided exactly the kind of entertainment promoters hoped for when bringing F1 back to the city after a 41-year absence. The Saturday night race under the lights delivered non-stop action, overtaking and drama from start to finish.

With a packed crowd of celebrities looking on, F1 showed it can successfully stage an event in the entertainment capital of the world. For Verstappen the win was yet another dominant display as he closes in on the record for most wins in a season.
