Valencia Sack Gattuso After Just 8 Months In Charge

January 30, (THEWILL) – Valencia Football Club has announced the sacking of their Manager, Gennaro Gattuso, following a mutual agreement between the club and the coach.

Gattuso was appointed in June 2022 and signed a two-year deal. However, he was unable to reverse its downward trajectory and won just five of his 18 La Liga games in charge.

Valencia issued a statement that read: “The Club wants to thank the coach for his commitment and work in these months in charge of the first team and wish him the best of luck in his future. The team will return to training this Tuesday, January 31, under the orders of ‘Voro’ Gonzalez.”

It will be an incredible eighth spell for Gonzalez as the caretaker manager of Valencia FC. He faces a challenging task in the coming days as he prepares the squad for a tough away match against Real Madrid, the reigning Champions League holders.

Gattuso, who won the 2006 World Cup with Italy, had a distinguished playing career, representing teams like Rangers and AC Milan. He started his coaching career in Switzerland with Sion and went on to manage Pisa, AC Milan and Napoli, where he led them to Coppa Italia success in 2020 before moving to Valencia.
