October 28, (THEWILL) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Germany, has placed a partial travel warning on Nigeria, advising its citizens to limit travel within Abuja to what is absolutely necessary, citing intelligence reports on terrorism threats.
The Government also urged its nationals not to travel to certain areas of Nigeria, except where necessary.
“There is currently an increased risk of attack in Abuja. Travel to Abuja that is not absolutely necessary is therefore currently strongly discouraged”, the German Foreign Office stated in updated information on its website, dated October 27, 2022.
It advised citizens to avoid crowds and busy public places like markets and restaurants.
“Be extra vigilant and careful”, the advisory added.
The security advisory may not be unconnected to a recent security alert by the United States, warning of a possible terror attack on Abuja.
Also, a number of other countries including the United Kingdom, France, Bulgaria, Ireland, Denmark and Canada, have equally alerted their nationals to security threats in Nigeria, particularly Abuja.
However, the Department of State Service (DSS), had urged Nigerians to remain calm but stay alert.
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), has also assured residents in Abuja of safety while floating emergency numbers across the country for prompt response with combatant officers and men on standby to respond in case of emergency situations and distress calls.
