Unstoppable Sinner Storms Into Miami Final With Medvedev Rout

March 30, (THEWILL)- Rising Italian tennis star, Jannik Sinner, produced a masterclass to demolish Russian Daniil Medvedev 6-1, 6-2 in just 69 minutes in the semi-finals of the Miami Open on Friday.

The world number three’s dominant victory set up a final showdown against either Alexander Zverev or Grigor Dimitrov on Sunday, where he will be the overwhelming favourite.

The 22-year-old gained revenge over Medvedev, who had defeated him in the 2023 Miami Open final. However, the roles were reversed this time around, with the young Italian utterly outclassing his 28-year-old opponent from the outset. Sinner broke Medvedev’s serve in the opening game and never looked back, dictating play with his powerful groundstrokes and deft net play.

In contrast, Medvedev looked out of sorts, struggling to hold serve and making uncharacteristic errors. Sinner capitalised ruthlessly, breaking the Russian four times en route to a comprehensive straight-sets victory. The scoreline reflected Sinner’s dominance, as he wrapped up the opening set in just 33 minutes before racing through the second.

After the match, Sinner acknowledged his sublime form while also crediting Medvedev’s lacklustre performance. “I felt great on court today. Daniel didn’t feel this well today and made a lot of mistakes, which he usually doesn’t make, so I just took the chance,” said the Italian.

Sinner, who has now won five consecutive matches against Medvedev, believes he is a different player from the one who lost in the 2023 Miami final. With his recent success, including a run of 19 wins before his Indian Wells semi-final loss to Carlos Alcaraz, Sinner is brimming with confidence ahead of Sunday’s final.
