BEVERLY HILLS, July 3, (THEWILL) – A member of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Gideon Aremu, has been murdered by unknown gunmen in Ibadan, the state capital.
Aremu had just completed his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Mathematics and Statistics at University of Ilorin and had already collected his convocation gown for the ceremony slated for next week.
Unfortunately, he was shot in front of his house in Alakia area of Ibadan at about 9:50 pm on Friday while his remains was deposited at the morgue of Toun Memorial Hospital, Iwo Road, Ibadan.
Confirming the incident, Adekunle Ajisebutu, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) said the command considered it a case of suspected murder.
“The Commissioner of Police (CP) has deployed enough human and other resources to track down the killers,” he said.
“We are using this opportunity to appeal to members of the public who have information to please come up and assist the police.
“For now, we won’t want to make statements that can jeopardise investigation.”
Until his death, he was a member of Labour Party (LP) representing Oorelope Constituency and Chairman, House Committee on Information, Public Relations and Security.
The LP, in the state, expressed shock at the incident and urged the police to fish out the killers and bring them to book.
Chairman, Labour party, Oyo state, Gbenga Olayemi described the act as ungodly, barbaric and condemnable as he wondered how anyone could consider the thought of murdering a fellow man.
