July 17, (THEWILL) – Former Super Eagles star, Finidi George, and his technical crew at Enyimba Football Club could be facing an uncertain future following a directive from the club’s newly appointed Sporting Director, Ifeanyi Ekwueme.

In a memo sent out by Ekwueme, there are indications that Finidi and other staff members may need to reapply for their positions, putting their jobs at stake. Finidi, who recently led the Aba Millionaires to their historic ninth title in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL), could potentially find himself without a role at the club he has been managing since 2021.

The Aba Millionaires enjoyed a remarkable season under Finidi’s leadership, culminating in a league title secured through an unbeaten run in the Super 6 finale held in Lagos. However, the euphoria of their success has been short-lived, as the new Sporting Director wasted no time in asserting his authority at the club. Ekwueme’s memo, acting on behalf of the newly appointed Chairman, Kanu Nwankwo, has mandated Enyimba’s management, technical crew, and staff to reapply for their positions within a tight 48-hour timeframe.

This swift move by Ifeanyi Ekwueme as the newly appointed Sporting Director has been received with uncertainty and surprise. Just days after his appointment, Ekwueme is making it obvious that changes are on the horizon, leaving coach George and his crew in a precarious position.

The appointment of Ekwueme, facilitated by Nwankwo and backed by the Abia State Government led by Governor Alex Otti, signals a potential shake-up within the club as it enters a new phase under fresh leadership.
